I am so exited to finally be launching #girlswithdrills. I’ve been dying to talk about #girlswithdrills for months now! Kisha and I have been working on it for a while. It’s been so much fun making this happen.

We met a few months ago and started talking, we bonded over our love of STEAM, encouraging the next generation and coffee. We think making stuff is too much fun for any child to be excluded. So we’re doing something about it.

#girlswithdrills was born after we found shared frustrations over the lack of confidence in children, and especially girls, we work with.  We want to start a conversation. Why are so many people not able to access the vital skills needed for them to thrive in the future?!

We believe that by giving children equal access to making, we’re helping them gain the skills they need for careers they otherwise wouldn’t consider. We are encouraging tomorrow’s inventors, programmers and tinkerers. Afterall, many of today’s children will have jobs that don’t yet exist.

And don’t fret, just because we are campainging under the banner #girlswithdrills, does not mean that everyone else is left out. You can do your bit to help. With every #girlswithdrills top purchased, Bright Box Makerspace will provide a young person in a disadvantaged area with a maker session free of charge. Please use these tops to start conversations with friends, strangers and loved ones about equal opportunity in making.

The #girlswithdrills campaign is running from the 10th of November to the 1st of December 2017. To support the campaign, share your projects with the hashtag #girlswithdrills and pictures of your new top.

Ruth Amos has hit the nail on the head with this. We need to inspire all children especially girls to create as they are our future. Every young person needs to know they can do anything!
